Repetition.

I do this every year or so. I make a blog, then I abandon it. I honestly have all the best intentions, I really do. I want to have a diary so I can look back on it, and see my thoughts at the time.

So this time hopefully I won't let this happen. I will actually stick at this and make it something worth reading.

The last couple of days, I haven't had any internet. My modem is an old, old piece of machinery and it finally gave up the ghost sometime on Friday.

My first (well, half) day at the lab was great! I was shown around the different labs, met some colleagues, and then spoke with my employers as to what is expected of me.

Then, I went out with a drink with some of the lads and lasses, which was nice of them to offer. At least when I start next week properly, I will have bonded with a couple of people.

Things seem to be looking forward to me.

Sorry, this is such a brief post, but I have to go and see family tonight. I will put up a much longer post when I start for real.

I am very excited and a little nervous. I can't wait to see what it's all about; I was so shocked when I got the callback from the interview.

I guess I should tell you a little more. The lab is sort of a biological research facility for a major company, studying and carrying out all sorts of experiments.

I'm going to be acting as another pair of hands. I'll be a lab technician for the researchers, and doing general jobs around the place if needed. making up stock solutions, preparing the equipment, you know, that sort of thing.

No, I won't be discovering the cure for cancer any time soon, but we can all start somewhere. I hope it will be a little more fascinating than some of the other jobs I've held. Retail work really isn't for me.

Only a short post. But I haven't a lot to report, just did the grocery shopping and not much else today.

I don't want to reveal too much about myself, as I fear for my privacy on the internet somewhat (disclosing my full name, I am comfortable with. I could be anywhere in the world), so for now we will leave it at that.

I have reached a time in my life where everything is new. University is long behind me, I am starting a new job soon, at a research lab, which is fantastic. My girlfriend and I split up recently. Maybe that isn't quite as great, but it does feel liberating, even if I am hurting a little inside still, and I have just moved into a new flat on my own.

And this is why I thought I would start a blog here. So I could document what I feel during this exciting period. Share it with anyone who wishes to talk to me. It really is thrilling; the world is my oyster.

My first day in the lab is on Friday. I will be having an induction day, simply to look at their methods of doing things, their practical etiquette, and in order to meet the staff I will be working with (and under, I suppose!). I'm a little nervous, I haven't actually held a job since graduating that is relevant to my degree (Chemistry, with modules taken in Biochemistry) - It'll feel like I'm being examined all over again - but it should all go smoothly, I just have a horrible tendency to panic a bit when meeting new people. Social extrovert, yet an introvert at heart, that's me!

By the way, if anyone is wondering about the URL, I am shockingly bad at picking website URLs, so I just chose two words from a song I was listening to at the time. For interested parties, Kissing Families, by Silversun Pickups.

I will update you when I have something interesting to say.
